Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the White House in Washington DC on Saturday to stand in solidarity with Kurdish people and demand US President Donald Trump to take action against the ongoing Turkish military operation in north-eastern Syria.
Chanting slogans like “Stop Turkish invasion” and “Trump, wake up”, demonstrators gathered at Lafayette Square carrying Kurdish flags and banners.
“We want sanctions against Turkey for this invasion. We want a no-fly zone for Rojava, a no-fly zone for north-eastern Syria,” said Flynn Arthur, Vice-President of the American Rojava Center for Democracy.
The recent protest is part of global demonstrations held under the slogan “Rise Up 4 Rojava”.
Thousands of protesters have come out on the streets in recent days since Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the beginning of a military operation, dubbed ‘Operation Peace Spring’, on October 9 to create a ‘safe zone’ cleared of US-backed Kurdish groups.
