Floridian spring breakers flocked to the beach on Thursday, despite recommended social distancing measures against the coronavirus pandemic.
Footage shows beach visitors lying on the sun-scorched beach and swimming in the water.
“I’ve just moved here, I moved here last Friday, so nothing is going to stop me from coming out here,” said one of the beach visitors.
A young spring breaker said that he is “not too worried,” about having negative consequences on his health as “it is a virus that doesn’t really affect our age group.”
“I see the argument that a lot of the young people coming out here are ignorant because people are seeing that they are going to go home and give it to the grandma or grandpa. I am going home and go back to my apartment and probably be around nobody, not even to grandma or grandpa. So that argument works for some people, I mean it depends on the situation,” said another young person.
US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency over the coronavirus outbreak last Friday.
According to the latest reports by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), at least 209,839 people have been infected by the COVID-19 worldwide and over 8,778 people have died.
