Michael Moore and two members of the so-called ‘Squad’ guest-starred at a Bernie Sanders rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday night, ahead of hotly-contested Democratic presidential primaries.
Documentary filmmaker Moore attacked the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for changing the rules for debate participation, paving the way for billionaire Michael Bloomberg to take part.
“The DNC will not allow Cory Booker on that stage, will not allow Julian Castro on that stage, but will allow Mike Bloomberg on the stage ‘cos he’s got a billion fucking dollars,” Moore told a pumped-up crowd at the Horizon Events Center.
His appearance was followed by three Democratic Congresswomen widely considered to hail from the left of the party, namely: Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Pramila Jayapal.
Omar, who forms part of the ‘Squad alongside Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley, rubbished criticism that she and Bernie were “anti-American”.
“The people that call me anti-American are projecting, because those who fight for the America we deserve, like Bernie Sanders, are pro-American.”
Sanders was unable to attend the event due to a key vote in US President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial on Capitol Hill.
The primary season starts with the Iowa caucus on February 3.
