Hundreds of protesters rallied outside the Indian High Commission office in London on Sunday, to denounce the treatment of Kashmiris by India. The demonstration took place on what marks India’s Republic Day.
Protesters were chanting “Stop killing in Kashmir” and “We want freedom.”
“We want to tell the world that Kashmiris are under siege for the last 175 days. There is a communication blackout, there is a lockdown, people have no access to food, people have no access to medicines,” said the organiser of the protest, Fahi Kayani.
Indian-administered Kashmir has been in lockdown since August after the Indian government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi stripped the region of its autonomous status.
