UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson called an emergency Cobra meeting in London on Monday to discuss how to fight the novel coronavirus. Protesters had earlier gathered near 10 Downing Street calling on tougher measures against the pandemic.
Footage shows government officials arriving for the Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms (COBRA) meeting.
Footage also shows protesters gathered at Downing Street dressed up in hazmat suits holding a banner reading “Pause the system.”
“The government is failing to take into consideration what the World Health Organisation is saying,” one protester said. “What we need is for the government to stop prioritising the economy over the most vulnerable in society.”
According to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) latest report, there are over 153,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus worldwide, with more than 5,700 who lost their lives. In the UK, more than 1,100 people are infected with the COVID-19.
