An international ‘No to NATO’ counter-summit was held in London on Friday, to oppose the upcoming NATO Leaders summit, marking the 70th anniversary of the North Atlantic military alliance.
“No to NATO today means for us to say no to Trump, and all the wars Trump is preparing and wants to prepare,” said Reiner Braun, from the International Peace Bureau. “We want cooperation, above all with Russia,” he stressed.
Speaking ahead of the event, Kate Hudson from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) explained that the counter-summit was an occasion to discuss alternatives to militarisation and the ‘brutalism’ of NATO.
NATO member states are expected to discuss progress against terrorism, NATO relations with Russia, the future of armaments control and the rise of China, on December 3-4 in London. US President Donald Trump, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be among those attending the event.
