Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound to pray on the last Friday of Ramadan in the Old City of Jerusalem.
The vast majority of people seen at the mosque were Palestinian Muslims from nearby cities or refugee camps, who had to endure the high temperatures, above 39 degrees celsius (102 fahrenheit), that the region is currently experiencing, with water spraying and hoses being used to help the attendees keep cool.
Israeli security forces were heightened throughout the city on Friday and only men over 40, children under 14 and women were allowed into the city to take part in the prayers.
