Spain: Jailed Catalan Politicians Appear at Catalan Parliament

Jailed Catalan Politicians including former Vice President Oriol Junqueras, alongside former ministers Dolors Bassa, Josep Rull, Jordi Turull, Raul Romeva and Joaquim Forn, appeared at the Catalan Parliament in Barcelona on Tuesday.

Footage shows the Catalan leaders making their way inside Parliament as they were greeted by current Catalan President Joaquim Torra and several pro-independence members of Parliament who started clapping as soon as they walked past the entrance. The People’s Party Leader in Catalonia, Alejandro Fernandez, was also caught on camera in the building.

Junqueras, Bassa, Rull, Turull and Romeva, who are currently imprisoned for their role played in the autonomous region’s attempt to secede and holding an illegal independence referendum, were granted permission to briefly leave jail and take part of the Parliament’s ongoing investigation over the application of Article 155 of the Spanish constitution.
