Representatives from Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other groups active in the Gaza Strip met in Gaza City on Sunday to discuss their response to the Israeli government’s plans to annex large areas of the occupied West Bank.
“We call on the targeted sites that the Zionist enemy will annex and seize, to prepare in the first areas of engagement today. Let the enemy know that the Palestinian resistance has performed long, as a people, and that our resistance is ready to do everything necessary to end this enemy’s plans,” said Khalil al-Hayya, a member of Hamas’ Political Bureau.
“The meeting of the general secretaries was to develop a national strategy to agree to escalate the clash with this Israeli occupation in order to pressure the Israeli occupation and force them to retreat from the annexation plan,” explained Jamil Mezher, leader in the Palestinian Popular Front following the meeting.
The Israeli government is planning to annex large areas of the occupied West Bank, a move denounced as contrary to international law by the UN, several European powers, and the Palestinian Authority as well as human rights organisations.
