Venezuela Streets Sanitised on Maduro’s ‘National Disinfection Day’

Workers were disinfecting the streets of Caracas on Wednesday, as part of measures to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Footage shows workers in full protective gear as they disinfect streets, store shutters and shops in the city’s Catia neighbourhood.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had chosen April 15 to serve as the ‘national disinfection day’ throughout the Latin American country.

The local mayor’s office reportedly decided for all businesses in the area to close on Wednesdays and Sundays, in order for disinfection tasks to be carried out.

Venezuela has 197 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 9 related deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
