Iran Urges Regional Unity and Cooperation to Combat U.S. and Israeli Aggression

The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called for Middle Eastern unity in the face of continuing aggression by the United States and Israel.

Speaking earlier today at an Army Day parade in Tehran, Rouhani stated that the United States and Israel were the causation of problems in the Middle East and that Iran poses no threat to any other country in the region.

“The region’s nations have lived alongside each other for centuries and never had a problem… If there is a problem, it is caused by others. If we have a problem in the region today, its roots are either with Zionism or America’s arrogance. “

Rouhani also seemingly offered an olive branch to other nations in the region, including perhaps those who have been wary or sceptical of Iranian motivations through political or religious differences, stating that Tehran is not working against their “national interests” but rather was working in their shared mutual interests “against the aggressors”.

“Let us stand together, be together and rid the region of the aggressor’s presence.”

The statement comes as the United States continues to step up tensions in the region, Donald Trump not only recognising the illegal Israeli annexation of the Golan Heights but vetoing moves by Congress to end the U.S. role in the Yemen war, designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a “terrorist organisation” and suggesting that Iranian money was being used in Venezuela “for malign purposes”, the latter moves many seeing as setting the groundwork for war for a war with Tehran.

Iran has been strong in its condemnation of U.S. rhetoric, stating that the “abhorrent” move against the Revolutionary Guard was “an insult to Iran”.

“Insulting the Revolutionary Guards is an insult to all [Iranian] armed forces, and an insult to [the] great [Iranian] nation.”
