The ferry “Nissos Samos” with 249 refugees onboard arrived at Piraeus, the chief seaport of Athens, on Monday as part of Greece’s plan to evacuate overcrowded facilities during the coronavirus pandemic.
The refugees arrived from the port of the island of Lesbos, Mitilini, and will be transferred to accommodation facilities on the mainland.
Footage shows families disembarking the vessel and waiting for buses while wearing face masks.
The Greek authorities have been transferring hundreds of refugees from refugee camps on Lesbos in an attempt to remove the load from the facilities as the camps have already been overcrowded and operating above its capacity.
As of Monday, Greece has 2,626 cases of coronavirus and 144 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.
