France: Tear Gas Flies As Police Clash With Music Festival Attendees in Nantes

Clashes broke between police and attendees of an annual music festival and continued late in the night in Nantes, between Sunday and Monday.

In an attempt to disperse the crowds, police used tear gas against the attendees, who were seen throwing objects and kicking security barriers around on a bridge in downtown Nantes.

Revellers were also dispersed by police in Paris, amid reported failure to comply with social-distancing measures enacted to curb the coronavirus.

The music festival known as ‘Fete de la musique’ is held each year on June 21.

This year in Nantes, the festival coincided with the one-year anniversary of Steve Canico’s death.

Canico is said to have died in June 2019 following clashes with police. His body was found in the Loire river in late July of last year.
