Bolivia: IACHR Representatives Meet Injured Protesters in Cochabamba

Representatives of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) travelled to Sacaba in Cochabamba on Monday, to meet with several people injured during ongoing protests in Bolivia.

Footage shows the arrival of Paulo Abrāo, executive secretary of the Washington-based commission, alongside Abrāo meeting with several injured people.

“If I had died, I don’t know what would happen to my wife, here in Bolivia there is no justice,” said one of the wounded

Evo Morales resigned from the Bolivian presidency after weeks of protests following the disputed October 20 presidential election, which saw Morales narrowly achieve enough votes to avoid a run-off. Supporters of Morales, including the government of Mexico who offered him asylum, have described the resignation as a coup under military pressure.

The recognition of interim president Jeanine Anez by the Senate as the country’s new president has seen unrest continue between supporters and opponents of former indigenous leader Morales. Over 30 people have been killed in political unrest since the disputed presidential election on October 20, according to the Bolivian Ombudsman’s Office.
