Argentina: Evo Morales Hosts Successor on Flying Visit

Bolivia’s ousted president Evo Morales met with his successor and presidential candidate for Movement to Socialism (MAS) Luis Arce in Buenos Aires on Monday.

During a joint press conference, Arce expressed doubts about the candidacy of current interim president Jeanine Áñez, in particular, the “transparency of the electoral process in my country.”

“The only thing that this confirms clearly is that there was a coup d’etat, which this de facto government has been denying,” he added.

As for Morales, he said that “in this campaign ‘nationalisers’ will face ‘privatisers’, and the people will never forget that.”

The decision of Jeanine Añez, de facto president of Bolivia, to run for the elections in Bolivia, sparked criticism after running contrary to her promise of leading a transitional government.

With the elections due to take place in around three months, Anez’s candidacy has divided the right-wing and increased distrust towards the transparency of the electoral process.
