Thousands of schoolchildren gathered outside the Lebanese ministry of education in Beirut on Thursday to add their voices to the ongoing anti-government protests and demand a better future.
“I am here to ask them [politicians] to give us back our rights and protest for the sake of our future,” one of the students said.
Footage shows students singing the Lebanese national anthem, chanting slogans, and waving flags. One student could be seen holding a placard reading: “We are missing our lessons so we can teach you one.”
Over the last weeks, Lebanon has been gripped by mass protests, which are believed to be the country’s largest since 2015, as protesters took to the streets to voice their discontent with deteriorating living conditions, austerity measures, capital flight and the rise of the deficit and public debt.
