Jerusalem: Activist Decries Trump’s ‘Deal of the Century’ During Friday Prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque

Thousands of Palestinians prayed at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem on Friday, in response to calls for support for the mosque and for the rejection of US President Donald Trump’s Israel-Palestine peace plan, often called the ‘deal of the century’.

Footage from the Al-Aqsa Mosque showed the Israeli soldiers at the gates of the mosque and inside the Old City of Jerusalem.

Fakhri Abu Diab, a Jerusalem-based activist, said after attending the prayer that “one of the positive consequences [of the ‘deal of the century] is the uprising of the people of Jerusalem and Palestine as whole.”

He added that “as a result, the more danger on the al-Aqsa Mosque there is, and the time for the implementation of the ‘deal of the century’ closely approached, the more people will move to the mosque [for support].”

The prayer comes amid increased tensions in the occupied West Bank, due to constant Palestinian demonstrations against Trump’s ‘deal of the century.’

Trump unveiled his set of proposals to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington DC last month.

Palestinians rejected the plan as being one-sided in favour of Israel.
