WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Kristinn Hrafnsson commented on the latest session of the extradition trial of the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, saying that his arrest was a “top-level decision,” London, Monday.
“Trump had directly ordered Mr Grenell, then ambassador of the United States to Germany, to negotiate with the Ecuadorians about the arrests. I don’t know if the negotiation involved the UK government as well. But this goes to show that this was on a top-level decision to go after Julian Assange and get him arrested and get him extradited to the United States,” he said as he commented on the testimony of journalist and activist Casandra Fairbanks heard in the court earlier.
Assange has been behind bars in Belmarsh Prison since he was dragged out of the Ecuadorian Embassy in April 2019. He faces multiple charges in the US related to espionage.
