Iraq: Protest Camp Returns in Solid Brick Form in Nasiriyah

Hundreds of anti-government protesters were filmed constructing solid structures made of bricks in Nasiriyah on Tuesday, after their tents were dismantled or burned by police forces.

Numerous people were involved in the process at Al Habobi Square.

On Saturday, Iraqi authorities raided key protest sites in several Iraqi cities deploying live ammunition and tear gas and setting fire to protesters’ tents.

Iraq has been in the grip of unrest over government corruption, high unemployment and external influence in Iraqi politics.

At least 500 people have been killed across the country, while the country’s prime minister was forced to resign on December 1.
