Residents in Tehran appeared to support Iran’s overnight missile strikes on two US military bases in Iraq on Wednesday. The frontpages of morning newspapers were dominated by the coverage of the funeral for Quds Force General Qassem Soleimani.
“I am very happy with what the IRGC did. When we heard the announcement of the martyrdom of Qassem Soleimani, we became very upset. I myself was very upset about it. Today is one of my best days and I hope this will continue. I think this was the first move to show Iran’s power,” said Davari, a Tehran resident.
Iran targeted the US bases in retaliation for the killing of Soleimani in a US drone strike last week. The general was buried in his home town of Kerman on Wednesday.
”We support it and we would like to say that this is only the beginning. If revenge is not taken from those who committed this crime and if this trend does not continue, they will become ruder and as they mentioned they might attack cultural and our religious places like Mashhad and Qom. It is in that case that a war, even a world war, could start,” said Esmail Darvish, another Tehran resident.
