Thousands of people protested late into the night, in Paris on Tuesday, as part of a nationwide movement called by unions to express their discontent over proposed pension reforms.
Footage shows the protesters marching during the day, holding banners and placards against the government and the proposed pension reforms. Later in the evening, protesters can be seen lighting flares and chanting. The footage also shows minor scuffles with riot police squads.
On December 11, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced a two-year-extension of the working period necessary to earn a full pension, triggering the anger of workers and trade unions.
The demonstrations have turned into a movement addressing wider issues such as funding for the public sector. Health workers are expected to mobilise on 20 December.
