France: Former FN Candidate Arrested After Shooting at Mosque in Bayonne, 2 Injured

A man was arrested after a shooting at a mosque in Bayonne, in southwestern France, on Monday, injuring at least two people.

The 84-year-old gunman fired four shots injuring a 74-year-old man and a 78-year-old man, who attempted to prevent him from setting fire to the mosque door, while worshippers prayed inside the mosque.

The assailant was arrested roughly 10 km (6.2 miles) away in Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx, after police discovered a gun, a gas cylinder and grenades in his possession, according to local sources.

According to local police, the man was a former candidate in Marie Le Pen’s far right Front National party, which is now known as National Rally.
