Students from a school in the municipality of Soacha, near Bogotá, have decided to make their own face masks amid a shortage due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Footage shows students wearing masks while attending classes, and making the masks in a small workshop set up at the school.
“We go to a drugstore to ask for a mask and they always say that they are very scarce or there are none, and those that do have them, are selling them at a very expensive price,” said Sofia Godoy, a student.
Hector Penaloza, one of the teachers who encouraged the students to make masks, says it “is a very important work of awareness”, and added that “we have to tell the children that they have to wear masks”.
So far, Colombian authorities have confirmed nine cases of Covid-19.
