Colombia: Anti-Govt Protesters Clash With Police in Bogota Streets

At least one person was reportedly injured and several were arrested as anti-government protesters clashed with riot police in the streets of Bogota on Thursday.

The injured person is allegedly Miguel Angel Linares, reports suggesting he might become the 17th protester to lose an eye during the protests.

Smoke from tear gas filled in the streets of the Colombian capital after being fired by the police, with some of the protesters throwing projectiles in response.

Colombia has been going through a wave of protests and anti-government mobilisations since November 21. Among the protesters’ demands are the withdrawal of the pension system reform project, the dismantling of the ESMAD police squadron and the interruption of labour reforms proposed by the government.
