Police deployed tear gas and water cannons as thousands of protesters held a rally in Santiago on Wednesday, marking the second month of anti-government unrest.
The activists wearing facemasks launched projectiles against the riot police, who tried to disperse the crowd and made several arrests.
The protests were triggered by a now-withdrawn increase in subway fares. Social discontent has been fuelled by frustration with Chilean President Sebastian Pinera’s policies and growing inequality.
