Brazil: Protesters Storm Sao Paulo's Legislative Assembly Amid Pension Reform Vote

Thousands of protesters stormed the Legislative Assembly in Sao Paulo on Tuesday amid a second vote in the Brazilian state’s regional pension reform.

Footage filmed at the Palacio 9 de Julho where the Assembly is located shows protesters forcing their entrance in huge numbers in order to disrupt the voting from taking place. Military police trying to keep order could also be seen attempting to prevent demonstrators from entering the plenary.

Last August Sao Paulo’s governor Joao Doria announced a state pension reform that would seek to raise monthly contributions from civil servants alongside establishing new minimum retirement age for women at 62 and men at 65, in order to save money.
