Blaming China for Coronavirus “hurts US Reputation and Image” Says Beijing

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said the US attempts to shift the blame for the coronavirus pandemic to China “hurts the US reputation and image.” The announcement was made in Beijing on Friday.

“The US State Department is contrary to the facts, it is engaged in political stigmatization and tries to divert attention from the public. It is not good for either the US virus control and prevention work nor global coordination,” he said.

The comments came after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged all countries to be transparent and honest while dealing with the coronavirus numbers. He has previously accused the Chinese government of covering up the scale of the pandemic outbreak and not sharing the actual data.

“We urge the US to respect the truth and the common opinions from the international community. The US should focus on its virus control and prevention,” Chinese official added.
