Thousands of people, including members of several labour groups, protested against Argentinian President Mauricio Macri’s austerity policies and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Buenos Aires, on Thursday.
Demonstrators marched along the city’s Avenida 9 de Julio behind the slogan “IMF out of Argentina and Latin America,” before gathering in front of the IMF offices in Plaza Libertad. Footage shows demonstrators staging a ‘polentazo’ (a ‘polenta’ cookout) in front of the IMF offices.
“We also propose to the next government for the debt to be with the people and not with the International Monetary Fund, a debt that is fraudulent and that in the case of Argentina has mostly gone to capital flight and to benefit multinationals,” said protester Marianela Navarro.
