Anti-Racism Mural Paying Tribute to George Floyd and Adama Traore Defaced in Paris

A mural honouring Adama Traore and George Floyd has been defaced with racist messages and vandalised by spray paint, in Stains, according to footage recorded on Sunday.

Murals and street art focusing on racism, have also appeared frequently in protest of Floyd’s death. One of these murals emerged in Stains, north of Paris, in June.

An investigation is underway and the circumstances of the vandalisation are unknown.

Adama Traore died in 2016 having been arrested by the French police. A second autopsy carried out uncovered he had died of asphyxiation. The officers involved were cleared of charges, but Traore’s death sparked protests that have rocked France for years. The brutal killing of George Floyd at the hands of USA police forces in Minneapolis on 26 May 2020 ignited global demos against racism and extreme police violence around the world.
