25 Injured As Israeli Military Opens Fire on Protestors in Nablus

The Tomb of Joseph | עדירל

Israeli troops have opened fire on a protest in the West Bank city of Nablus, injuring 25.

Accompanying busloads of Israeli colonial settlers to the tomb of Joseph, the troops opened fire on protesting Palestinian civilians with rubber-coated steel bullets, live rounds and tear gas.

Medical professionals at the scene say one man was shot in his leg with eight others shot with rubber-coated rounds. Sixteen of the injured were suffering from the effects of teargas inhalation.

Medical sources said the soldiers shot a young man with a live round in his leg, eight pothers with rubber-coated steel bullets to several parts of his body, and caused 16 others to suffer the severe effects of teargas inhalation.

Laying 30 miles north of Jerusalem, Nablus was clearly designated as being under Palestinian administrative and security control by the Oslo Accords. Israeli has frequently flouted Palestinian rights over the land and the city is surrounded by Israeli settlements.

There have been regular clashes since Nablus was handed over to the Palestinian National Authority in 1995, being the scene of regular clashes with the IDF during both the First and Second Intifada.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says that 522 residents of Nablus were killed and 3,104 injured during IDF onslaughts between 2000 to 2005, 80 alone during Israel’s 2002 Operation Defensive Shield. Later that same year Israel destroyed the al-Khadra Mosque, the Great Mosque, the al-Satoon Mosque and the Greek Orthodox Church in the city with bulldozers.
