US actors Joaquin Phoenix and Martin Sheen were among activists arrested at a protest in Washington DC on Friday. They took part in a demonstration against climate change led by actress Jane Fonda.
The Hollywood stars joined activists marching towards the Capitol building where they held the latest in a series of ‘Fire Drill Fridays’ protests.
Footage shows police officers approaching demonstrators and proceeding with arrests. ‘Fire Drill Fridays’ is an initiative started by Fonda to raise awareness about climate change.
It demands the government’s implementation of the ‘Green New Deal’, environmental justice, protection and restoration of biodiversity.
