India’s trade unions held a massive nationwide strike to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic policy, with the largest demonstration held in New Delhi, Wednesday.
“Today’s strike was called by the Centre of Trade Unions in India against the anti-labour policies of the Modi Government. They are changing the labour laws, they are taking away all the rights of the workers,” stressed Subashini Ali, one of the protesters.
People demanded better labour contracts, as well as a pay rise, also being outraged by ongoing privatisation of state companies, calling to stop “selling off” the public sector.
