Dozens of activists were arrested after disobeying police calls to disperse at a sit-in on New York City’s Herald Square, on Friday, as part of a protest against Black Friday and calling for action on climate change.
Footage shows the protesters blocking the crossroads at the square, and ignoring repeated calls by police through a megaphone, before being detained. The footage also shows protesters outside a branch of the New York Public Library and marching through the city.
“Part of the solution is going to be a no-growth economy and people are going to have to get used to not finding their self-worth in possessions, what they have, and accumulation of stuff. It’s time for that to end,” said Matt Connor, a protester.
