The first anniversary of the Yellow Vests movement descended into violent clashes with riot police in Paris on Saturday.
Demonstrators erected barricades and started small fires, while police responded with tear gas.
Several people were detained by the police and taken away in a police van.
The Yellow Vest protests began on November 17, 2018, and were initially sparked by a fuel price rise, but quickly spread throughout France and evolved into a general expression of dissatisfaction with the status quo.
