US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at a ‘Climate Crisis Summit’ in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, where they promoted their proposals to deal with climate change, the so-called ‘Green New Deal.’
“We’re going to come together, invest our system and decide that instead of paying for our destruction, we’re going to pay to come together and rebuild this nation,” said Ocasio-Cortez in reference to her plan.
Sanders echoed her sentiments, commenting that “We have got to be bold and aggressive, we have got to tell the fossil fuel industry that their short term profits are not more important than the future of our planet.”
Some 2,000 people attended the event at the city’s Drake University, where Canadian author and activist Naomi Klein also appeared.
Ocasio-Cortez formally endorsed Sanders’s bid to become the Democrat party’s nominee in 2020, at a rally in New York City on October 19.
