Following the release of new FBI files relating to the infamous 9/11 “dancing Israelis”, questions have once again surfaced surround what, if anything, the state of Israel knew about the September 11th terrorist attacks. In a world marred by disinformation and falsehoods from all sides, just what does Israel know about what happened that fateful September morning?
With over half of Americans believing that their government is still concealing the full truth of events both on and prior to 9/11, there is huge public interest and demand for answers, with few ever forthcoming. These attempts at deflection and failures in transparency have led to all manner of conspiracy theories, half-truths and outright lies.
Before any attempt is made to look toward Israeli actions surrounding 9/11, it’s important to note that ascribing blame for 9/11 to the state of Israel is particularly common amongst antisemitic groups who seek to suggest that Israel carried out the attacks and portray events in the context of a “Jewish conspiracy”, all with an intent toward promoting racial hatred. This notion must be rejected and condemned. All events must be seen through the eyes of Israel as a nation-state and within the context of the state interests of a nation. This article does not support the theory that Israel carried out the 9/11 attack and does not cover claims of American foreknowledge of the attacks.
The number of Jews killed on 9/11 is estimated at a number between 270 and 400, attempts to link the atrocity to Protocols of Zion style conspiracies not only dishonours their memory, but all those who died in the attacks. However, those individuals also deserve to have the truth heard, even if it may be difficult for some to accept.
Israel’s security service Mossad has extensive spying operations all over the world, they are quite rightly both respected and feared as the most effective and deadly intelligence service on the planet. The service does not restrict themselves to activity in hostile states, with extensive networks known to exist in friendly states to engage in espionage, subvert local politics toward the favour of Israel and undermine critics of the nation, frequently regarding issues surrounding Palestinian rights.
The United States is treated no differently in terms of Mossad operations than any other nation, with an extensive network throughout the country both prior to the 9/11 attacks and afterward.
At the time of the 9/11 attacks, the majority of call records and billing in the U.S. was done for the phone companies by Amdocs Ltd., an Israeli-based private telecommunications company. Given that it was almost impossible to make a call without Amdocs making a record of it, the company had been the subject of a great many investigations by the FBI for alleged links to Mossad.
In 1997 a large scale cocaine and ecstasy trafficking operation was busted in Los Angeles. The Israeli mafia operation was highly sophisticated and involved white-collar credit card and computer fraud. Investigators were shocked to discover that the operation had benefited from a huge surveillance operation against law enforcement, the criminals having access to cops beepers, cellphones and even home phones.
“The organization has apparent extensive access to database systems to identify pertinent personal and biographical information.”
In a foreshadowing of the National Security Agency’s own future scandals and even the ongoing Huwuai controversy, in 1999 the NSA produced a highly classified sensitive compartmentalized information report that revealed that American call data was in the hands of Israel, stating that “widespread data mining techniques and algorithms” were being utilised “combining both the properties of the customer and properties of the specific “behaviour” to keep extensive records of information such as who the customers were calling.
In June 2000, Israel was caught wiretapping the phone system of the White House and other sensitive systems. Those involved in that incident were a married Israeli couple, at least one of them a Mossad member, stationed in the Israeli Embassy in Washington and enjoying diplomatic immunity from arrest. The story was revealed by the Washinton Times supplement magazine Insight.
“More than two dozen U.S. intelligence, counterintelligence, law-enforcement and other officials have told Insight that the FBI believes Israel has intercepted telephone and modem communications on some of the most sensitive lines of the U.S. government on an ongoing basis. The worst penetrations are believed to be in the State Department. But others say the supposedly secure telephone systems in the White House, Defense Department and Justice Department may have been compromised as well. The problem for FBI agents in the famed Division 5, however, isn’t just what they have uncovered, which is substantial, but what they don’t know yet.”Washington Report
A name instantly familiar offers a retort.
Mark Regev, then of the Israeli Embassy in Washington and now the current Ambassador of Israel to the United Kingdom, called the allegations “outrageous,” claiming that, “Israel does not spy on the United States.”
Despite the obvious denials, it was long believed by President Bill Clinton that “a foreign embassy” was listening in to his very private conversations with Monica Lewinsky, Lewinsky going on the record with the claim during her testimony to U.S. government investigators over her involvement with the President.
Indeed, Israel believed that the outing of the wiretapping operation came directly from the Clinton administration as Clinton attempted to warn Tel Aviv away from the planned sale of at least one Israeli-configured AWACs-type airborne-warning system to China.
Prior to the September 11 attacks, a staggering 140 Israelis had been arrested in a highly classified investigation into suspected espionage by Israel against the United States. Documents shown to Fox News immediately after the attacks revealed that there was documentation that detailed hundreds of incidents in cities and towns across the country that investigators said, “may well be an organized intelligence gathering activity” designed to “penetrate government facilities.” Many were employees of Amdocs or other companies in Israel that specialize in wiretapping.
One operation centred on “art students” from the University of Jerusalem and Bazala Academy who made contact with U.S. government personnel under a cover of selling cheap art. The group targeted and penetrated military bases and government offices, the DEA, FBI and even secret offices and unlisted private homes of law enforcement and intelligence personnel. Most of those questioned, “stated they served in military intelligence, electronic surveillance intercept and or explosive ordinance units.”
“The Israelis are motivated by strong survival instincts which dictate every possible facet of their political and economic policies. It aggressively collects military and industrial technology and the U.S. is a high priority target… Israel possesses the resources and technical capability to achieve its collection objectives.”Defense Intelligence Report, quoted via Salon.com
Events Prior to 9/11
Given the scope of Mossad operations and both al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden’s stated opposition to the Israeli state, it would perhaps be unlikely that they didn’t have eyes and ears as close to Bin Laden as they could possibly get. This hypothesis would seem to be proven in August of 2000 when Mossad warned the FBI and CIA that “a major assault” was being planned, with up to 200 terrorists allegedly already in the country. The information suggested that a “large-scale target” was under threat and the U.S. was currently “very vulnerable”. The information provided indicated that the origin of the threat was “Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden.”
Following 9/11 investigators believed that the information provided by Mossad had been deliberately vague, suggesting that particularly identifying the targets as the Pentagon, World Trade Center and Capitol Building or the White House would have exposed Israeli’s spy network.
“What investigators are saying is that that warning from the Mossad was nonspecific and general, and they believe that it may have had something to do with the desire to protect what are called sources and methods in the intelligence community. The suspicion being, perhaps those sources and methods were taking place right here in the United States.”Carl Cameron, Fox News, December 13, 2001
Later that year in October, a Jewish Hungarian and former IDF veteran by the name of Andras Szekely is alleged to have overheard a conversation at Gomel Chesed Cemetery in Newark, New Jersey. By his own account, Szekely was collecting English Ivy cuttings at the cemetery when he overheard the following words in Hebrew from persons unknown.
“The Americans will learn what it is to live with terrorists after the planes hit the twins in September.”Alleged words overhead at Gomel Chesed Cemetery in Newark, New Jersey
Despite speaking with the FBI, the Breau refused to offer him protection for passing along the information, two agents finally visiting him at his home in June of 2001.
Following the atrocities in September, Szekely spoke with Ed Haas of the Muckraker Report about the incident and the FBI’s reluctance to deal with the case he’d presented almost a year before the 9/11 attacks. Upon attempting to verify with the FBI whether Szekely had indeed met with them, Haas was denied information as to whether a meeting took place with the Breau despite Szekely agreeing that the FBI could release the requested information. The FBI also disavowed knowledge of letters that were allegedly sent to Szekely.
Szekely provided copies of those letters alongside the business cards of the FBI agents that visited him.
Where this prior knowledge may have come from is merely a matter of speculation, with inside sources within al-Qaeda supported by intelligence gathering by Mossad the most likely origins.
Politically, the Bush Administration was moving toward publicly announcing plans for a Middle East peace endeavour. Had the terrorist attacks not taken place, it would likely have been a matter of days after 9/11 that the then Secretary of State Colin Powell would have announced U.S. backing for an independent Palestinian state and George Bush would have announced plans to meet with Yasser Arafat at either the White House or Camp David.
On September 10, 2001 the Washington Times published details of a revelatory document from a U.S. Army study center that showed deeper mistrust of Israel than the public face of international relations would suggest. The 68-page document from the Army School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) describes Israel’s military as a “500-pound gorilla. Well armed and trained” as well as stating that Israeli forces were “known to disregard international law to accomplish [a] mission”. Perhaps most shocking however was the assertion that “wildcard” Mossad would be “ruthless and cunning” with the “capability to target U.S. forces and make it look like a Palestinian/Arab act.”
September 11, 2001
Two hours prior to the first plane hitting the World Trade Center, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that two employees of early instant messaging service Odigo received messages predicting the attack would happen. While this incident is often highlighted as evidence for prior Israeli knowledge of the attacks, evidence points away from its inclusion.
While Odigo did have an office within a mile of the World Trade Center complex, this is not unusual considering the WTCs location in Manhattan. The messages were received at Odigo’s office in Herzliya Pituah near Tel Aviv, not New York, with the messages being presumably dismissed as either a joke or abusive spam before the events of 9/11 began. The recipients informed the company’s management immediately after the terror attack, who in turn contacted Mossad, who brought in the FBI.
The messages did not identify the World Trade Center as a target nor were they a “warning”, rather they were a threat of a terror attack. What is often neglected to be mentioned from reports into the incident is that the messages received ended in an antisemitic insult and that Odigo allowed users to freely message anyone in the world using the app and see their nationality. The likelihood that either terrorists or complicit agents would randomly inform two Israelis nowhere near the scene of their elaborate plans is unlikely in the extreme and the more likely explanation is that the Odigo incident was antisemitic trolling of two random Israelis at a coincidental time.
During the events of 9/11 itself, five individuals were seen filming the attacks and celebrating the atrocity, these five became known as the “high fivers” to the FBI and the “dancing Israelis” to the public at large. The FBI report states that the five were seen up to 40 minutes before the attack began “as early as 8am”.
“They seemed to be taking a movie… They were like happy, you know… They didn’t look shocked to me. I thought it was very strange.”Eyewitness “Maria”, ABC News, June 21, 2001
“Police received several calls from angry New Jersey residents claiming ‘middle-eastern’ men with a white van were videotaping the disaster with shouts of joy and mockery.”Ha’aretz, September 17, 2001
“Witnesses saw them jumping for joy in Liberty State Park after the initial impact. Later on, other witnesses saw them celebrating on a roof in Weehawken, and still more witnesses later saw them celebrating with high fives in a Jersey City parking lot.”Yediot, November 2, 2001
The five men took a series of 76 pictures during their activities, only 14 of which have ever been released. These photos were obtained by a Freedom of Information request to the FBI earlier this month.
Interestingly, several are timestamped as having been taken on September 10, a full day prior to the attacks.
The timestamp is consistent with an eyewitness report that places at least one of the five Israeli suspects at the location the photos were taken, the roof of the Doric Apartments, on September 10.
Their activities led to reports of “middle eastern men” celebrating the attacks, they led to a mysterious and unidentified call to police that explicitly named Palestinians as the men in the van.
Dispatcher: Jersey City police.
Caller: Yes, we have a white van, 2 or 3 guys in there, they look like Palestinians and going around a building.
Caller: There’s a minivan heading toward the Holland tunnel, I see the guy by Newark Airport mixing some junk and he has those sheikh uniform.
Dispatcher: He has what?
Caller: He’s dressed like an Arab
It’s is a very unusual thing to say somebody looks like a Palestinian because they are wearing a “sheikh uniform”, presumably meaning a thawb and keffiyeh, attired most commonly associated with the likes of Saudi Arabia. The call, which was never identified, seems more inclined toward suggesting that those in the van are Palestinian rather than highlighting a threat. Bare in mind also that at the time of the call there had been no indication to the public that the atrocity was the work of Arabs.
Following the reports of these celebrating Middle-Eastern men, the FBI put out an alert for police in the area to stop a “vehicle possibly related to New York terrorist attack… Three individuals with van were seen celebrating after initial impact and subsequent explosion.”
The men were detained at 4pm on September 11 travelling in a white van with highlighted maps of New York, box cutters, $4,700 in a sock, and foreign passports. Bomb-sniffing dogs brought to the van indicated the previous presence of explosives.
“We are Israeli. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the problem.”Sivan Kurzberg, Mossad driver of the van to police, reported by ABC News 20/20
There are accounts of more than one van being involved in this side of the affair, with the two most notable being the “mural van”, “Lincoln Bridge van” and the “George Washington Bridge van”.
Dealing firstly with the George Washington Bridge and Lincoln Bridge vans, there is some confusion as to whether both these vans existed or only one with added confusion as to the location. The incident is seemingly connected with the dancing Israelis and is likely the same individuals in the same van/s.
The initial reports are quite clear that either two or three people were in the van, not the full final five “dancing Israelis”.
As reported by CBS on September 12, reports indicated that New Jersey police believed there were enough explosives to destroy the entire bridge. The Jerusalem Post supported the claim, stating that a “van, packed with explosives, was stopped on an approach ramp to the bridge”. The report even suggests the intent of those in the vehicle, stating that “authorities suspect the terrorists intended to blow up the main crossing between New Jersey and New York”.
There seems to be have been a difference of opinion with the FBI who denied the report and, if it was the same van, as previously mentioned, found highlighted maps of New York, box cutters, $4,700 in a sock, foreign passports. The van had also been used for the transport of explosives, although later reports stated that no explosives had been found, yet three men were arrested after being seen celebrating the attack.
The FBI report says that explosive residue was found alongside “bomb suits”.
“A search of the van and individuals was conducted at the time of the vehicle stop. The vehicle was also searched by a trained bomb-sniffing dog which yielded a positive result for the presence of explosive traces. Swabs of the vehicle’s interior were taken, and those samples were sent to the FBI laboratory for further analysis. Final results are still pending.”FBI report into the arrest of the Dancing Israelis
Confusion has arisen at the exact location of this van and how the number of arrested Israeli’s was five when only three were in the van, with reports of an explosives-laden van not tallying with the FBI report of mere residue.
“That is the information that I am getting from two sources, that there was a van either on the New Jersey Turnpike or the Garden State Parkway, and that it was near the George Washington Bridge. There were two or three men who were in the van that was pulled over. It is not clear why the van was pulled over, but when it was, law enforcers found tons of explosives inside of the van.”Deborah Feverick, CNN
The answer would seem to be that there were two vans, one that was stopped approaching the George Washington Bridge and the other stopped approaching the Lincoln Tunnel. One of these fans contained explosives and one did not. Israeli citizens were arrested in both vans, likely comprising the full five “dancing Israelis”.
The “mural van”, which involves claims that Mossad were parked in a van on 6th and King Street a few blocks from the towers in a van with a depiction of the 9/11 atrocity already painted on the side. The common images that are shared of this van are below.
Now, the sheer concept that Mossad operatives would be broadcasting to the entire world that they knew what was about to transpire is obviously absurd and should immediately cast this claim into the dust. If common sense wasn’t enough, the above images originate at this blog and are clearly stated as being photoshopped and an artistic interpretation.
Given the panic created by the nature of the attacks, New Yorkers were understandably jumpy and the “mural van” is more likely to have depicted something else entirely, with one witness stating it was a patriotic painting of a jet-fighter sweeping up with the twin towers in the background. While the van was indeed reported to the police and was reported to contain two middle eastern men, there is no evidence to link it to the dancing Israelis beyond the fact it was also a van with alleged occupants from the Middle East.
The New York Times reported on September 16 that the van was abandoned, highlighting the panic that had enveloped the city by pointing out that “in first the hours and then the days ahead, every parked, abandoned truck loomed as a potential bomb.”
“One hour after the second tower tumbled, unnerved passers-by just south of Houston Street scattered as a police bomb squad towed away a large panel truck that had been abandoned on King Street, a street of row houses on the edge of Soho.”New York Times
The Jewish Weekly Forward later reported that the FBI had later ascertained that at least two of those detained were agents of Mossad and the group “were conducting a Mossad surveillance mission and that their employer, Urban Moving Systems of Weehawken, NJ, served as a front.” The suspects were charged with illegally residing in the United States and working without permits, they were deported in November. Reports suggest that some kind of deal was arranged between the U.S. and Israeli governments, something that certainly doesn’t suggest a simple deportation matter.
“Israeli and U.S. government officials worked out a deal — and after 71 days, the five Israelis were taken out of jail, put on a plane, and deported back homeABC News, June 21, 2002
One of the men, as quoted in a variety of mainstream media outlets, would later make a startling admission as to why he’d been in the United States. There seems to be little room for misinterpretation.
“The fact of the matter is we are coming from a country that experiences terror daily. Our purpose was to document the event.”One of the dancing Israelis, as quoted by ABC News
Quoted on 9/11 itself, current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu felt the attacks were a “good” thing.
“It’s very good… Well, not very good, but it will generate immediate sympathy… [They will] strengthen the bond between our two peoples, because we’ve experienced terror over so many decades, but the United States has now experienced a massive hemorrhaging of terror.”Benjamin Netanyahu, New York Times
What’s interesting about the quote from Netanyahu is not the hawkish and realist insensitivity, but rather it was almost the exact same line that one of the five dancing Israelis gave to the police.
“Israel now has hope that the world will now understand us. Americans are naive and America is easy to get inside. There are not a lot of checks in America. And now America will be tougher about who gets into their country.”“Dancing Israeli” Omer Marmari to police
Events Following 9/11
The Investigation into the arrested Israelis led the FBI to a company by the name of Urban Moving Systems owned by Dominik Suter, the owner of the vans driven by the suspects.
“The FBI searched Urban Moving’s offices for several hours, removing boxes of documents and a dozen computer hard drives. The FBI also questioned Urban Moving’s owner. His attorney insists that his client answered all of the FBI’s questions. But when FBI agents tried to interview him again a few days later, he was gone.”ABC News
Suter immediately fled to Israel and CIA chief of operations for counterterrorism Vince Cannistraro believed that the company had been a front for Mossad.
“According to Cannistraro, many people in the U.S. intelligence community believed that some of the men arrested were working for Israeli intelligence. Cannistraro said there was speculation as to whether Urban Moving had been “set up or exploited for the purpose of launching an intelligence operation against radical Islamists in the area, particularly in the New Jersey-New York area.”ABC News, June 21, 2002
As early as September 12, the 9/11 attacks were being used by hawks to push their own agenda, one formulated by the Project for the New American Century think tank. It was on the 12th that Donald Rumsfeld, still without any evidence of who the hijackers were, demanded that America attack Iraq.
“Condoleezza Rice, told [investigative reporter Nicholas Lemann] she had called together senior members of the National Security Council and asked them “to think about ‘how do you capitalise on these opportunities'”, which she compared with those of “1945 to 1947″: the start of the cold war.”John Pilger, New Statesman
Immediate moves to expand the coming war away from merely Osama Bin Laden and al-Qaeda were underway, with the war becoming very quickly a “war on terror” that by coincidence happened to centre in the Middle East. Nobody had any interest in declaring war on Northern Irish, Catalonian or South American terror groups of course.
On September 20, PNAC wrote to President Bush calling for action against Iraq, Hamas, Hezbollah, stating that “U.S. policy must aim not only at finding the people responsible for this incident but must also target those ‘other groups out there that mean us no good’ and ‘that have conducted attacks previously against U.S. personnel, U.S. interests and our allies.'” Indeed, PNAC seemed to be seeking to lessen the importance of Osama Bin Laden while trumpeting the need for action against Iraq and Israeli’s other enemies, saying that Bin Laden was “by no means the only goal” of the war on terror.
“Iraq: We agree with Secretary of State Powell’s recent statement that Saddam Hussein “is one of the leading terrorists on the face of the Earth….” It may be that the Iraqi government provided assistance in some form to the recent attack on the United States. But even if evidence does not link Iraq directly to the attack, any strategy aiming at the eradication of terrorism and its sponsors must include a determined effort to remove Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq. Failure to undertake such an effort will constitute an early and perhaps decisive surrender in the war on international terrorism. The United States must therefore provide full military and financial support to the Iraqi opposition. American military force should be used to provide a “safe zone” in Iraq from which the opposition can operate. And American forces must be prepared to back up our commitment to the Iraqi opposition by all necessary means.”
Hezbollah: Hezbollah is one of the leading terrorist organizations in the world. It is suspected of having been involved in the 1998 bombings of the American embassies in Africa, and implicated in the bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983. Hezbollah clearly falls in the category cited by Secretary Powell of groups “that mean us no good” and “that have conducted attacks previously against U.S. personnel, U.S. interests and our allies.” Therefore, any war against terrorism must target Hezbollah. We believe the administration should demand that Iran and Syria immediately cease all military, financial, and political support for Hezbollah and its operations. Should Iran and Syria refuse to comply, the administration should consider appropriate measures of retaliation against these known state sponsors of terrorism.Project for the New American Century, September 20, 2001
Israel and the Palestinian Authority: Israel has been and remains America’s staunchest ally against international terrorism, especially in the Middle East. The United States should fully support our fellow democracy in its fight against terrorism. We should insist that the Palestinian Authority put a stop to terrorism emanating from territories under its control and imprison those planning terrorist attacks against Israel. Until the Palestinian Authority moves against terror, the United States should provide it no further assistance.
In early October, George Bush publicly backed an independent Palestinian state if what would go on to be the Road Map For Peace, stating that “the idea of a Palestinian state has always been part of a vision, so long as the right of Israel to exist is respected.” Despite being a life-long opponent of a Palestinian state, Ariel Sharon curiously backed the suggestion and the moves eventually led to the failed Road Map to Peace.
Just days later, with the world still standing in solidarity with the United States and President Bush was receiving record highs in terms of popularity, Israel chose a very curious moment to unleash an unprecedented attack on Bush and United States foreign policy as Bush attempted to build an Arab coalition.
“Don’t repeat the terrible mistake of 1938 when the enlightened democracies of Europe decided to sacrifice Czechoslovakia for a temporary solution. Do not try to placate the Arabs at our expense… Israel will not be Czechoslovakia.”Ariel Sharon, October 5, 2001, quoted in The Guardian
Sharon’s comments sent U.S. and Israeli relations plunging “to their lowest point in a decade” and left Bush and the Americans furious. Sharon coupled his “contempt” for U.S. foreign policy by launching a murderous attack on Gaza, killing five Palestinians in the process.
“Ariel Sharon further signalled his contempt yesterday for the US diplomatic strategy of mending fences with the Arab world, by launching the heaviest Israeli military offensive since the start of the Palestinian uprising last year. In a pre-dawn assault, Israeli tanks and armoured bulldozers, helicopters, paratroopers, and ground forces seized the strategic rise of Abu Sneineh in Hebron, West Bank. The city was awarded to Palestinian control under US-sponsored peace accords in 1997.”The Guardian, October 5, 2001
In December of 2001, two months after the 9/11 attacks, Fox News aired a four-part exposure of the Israeli spying network in the United States, claiming that Israel operators “may have known things they didn’t tell us before September 11”.
The broadcast revealed that 60 Israelis had been detained since 9/11, either under the Patriot Act anti-terrorism law or for immigration offences. A number of those detained were serving with the Israeli military and failed polygraph tests when asked whether they were involved in surveillance operations against the U.S. While investigators didn’t believe there was involvement in the attacks themselves, they did believe that Israel had “gathered intelligence about the attacks in advance, and not shared it.”
“Evidence linking these Israelis to 9-11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It’s classified information.”A highly placed investigator speaking with Fox News in 2001
Israel condemned the Fox News broadcast, denying all the allegations made during the four-part report.
“The report on Fox News contains no quoted source, it has in no way demonstrated anything more than anonymous innuendo and should be regarded accordingly. Israel does not spy on the United States of America”Mark Regev, then American Embassy spokesman, December 2001

Could it be that on September 11, 2001, American law enforcement successfully stopped a terrorist attack on their soil? An action for which nobody will ever be commended and nobody will ever receive thanks?
While many, particularly those who defend the state of Israel, dismiss allegations of Israel having prior-knowledge of 9/11 as a “conspiracy theory”, the fact is that this was the clear working hypothesis of investigators in the immediate aftermath of the atrocity and the dancing Israelis story was given a reasonable amount of coverage in the mainstream media. Such was the confidence of the allegation that staunchly conservative and pro-Israel Fox News broadcast such allegations over the now expunged four-part series.
While events seem to be naturally confused, one explanation of events would seem to fit with the established facts. This is, of course, mere speculation based on the facts already outlined, it seeks not to offer a truth nor deny the many other interesting theories regarding the true facts of 9/11. Readers are invited to make their own judgments and read other theories and speculation before coming to their own conclusions.
Ariel Sharon and other hawks in the Israeli Likud Party and military have always been opposed to an independent Palestinian state, with some of the furthermost right-wing elements wanting nothing less than genocide for the Palestinian people. Likud had fully expected the Bush administration to support them on Palestine. Indeed it was a shock when, in fact, it was revealed that Bush was moving toward publicly announcing plans for a Middle East peace endeavour that would have given U.S. backing for an independent Palestinian state with Bush planning on meeting with Yasser Arafat at either the White House or Camp David. Although this plan would still come to fruition in the aftermath of 9/11, public opinion and political discourse had been shifted strongly to the right after the attacks.
Knowing that a major terrorist attack was being carried out that morning in New York and, given that nobody believed the Twin Towers would collapse, not quite comprehending the scale of what was about to transpire, a Mossad cell was ready to carry out a terrorist attack of its own in New York that same morning.
Using the al-Qaeda attack as a smokescreen, the Mossad cell would bomb either the George Washington Bridge or Lincoln Tunnel, perhaps even the World Trade Center itself, leaving behind significant “evidence” that the attack had been carried out by Palestinians, potentially linked to fundraisers out of New Jersey. One of these vans, containing two men, was carrying the bomb and had been transferred from the other van where sniffer dogs later picked up the scent of explosives. The possibility also exists that the entire plan may have been abandoned when the full scale of the atrocities became clear upon the collapse of the World Trade Center.
Ask the question, as highly trained Mossad operatives, just how likely would it be that they would sit filming the 9/11 attack in full view of the public, jumping for joy repeatedly and drawing explicit attention to themselves. These are hardly the actions of Mossad agents and the fact that were seen in several locations indicates again that not only were there more than three men involved but that it was not a genuine show of joy but rather a deliberate attempt to draw attention to themselves.
Ensuring that reports of Palestinians celebrating the attacks are spread, anonymously tipping off the police and directing them toward the Holland Tunnel, well away from both the George Washington Bridge and Lincoln Tunnel, the Mossad cell would have detonated their device and swiftly made off. Even today urban-legends of “Muslims celebrating 9/11” regularly appear online in far-right circles.
Investigators believed that the Urban Moving Systems Mossad cell had been involved in operations against those linked to Hamas and Islamic Jihad funding in the NY-NJ area. Even when the CIA and other intelligence services successfully linked the main attacks to al-Qaeda, it would be almost impossible for Palestine to deny that they had been involved in the overall day of infamy.
The effect that Palestine being linked to 9/11 would have had on political and social attitudes to the Palestinian struggle is obvious. A successful operation would have forever linked Palestine with al-Qaeda and the 9/11 atrocity, creating a bond of solidarity between the U.S. and Israel, both nation’s being victims of Palestinian “terror”. Any possibility of a Palestinian state would have been forever off the agenda and few would have objected to Israel taking punitive measures against those implicated in the 9/11 attacks nor America clamping down on funding for the likes of Hamas and Hezbollah within its borders.
It is interesting to note that in 1993 following the bombing of the World Trade Center, radical preacher Omar Abdel-Rahman conceived of a follow-up plot to bomb the UN headquarters, the Lincoln Tunnel, the Holland Tunnel, the George Washington Bridge, the St. Regis, the UN Plaza Hotels, and the FBI’s main New York office. The plotters intended to drive bomb-laden vehicles into the middle of the tunnels and detonate them three minutes after making their escape. With knowledge of this plot widely known, an attack on the Lincoln Tunnel or the George Washington Bridge alongside a simultaneous bombing campaign by militants was highly feared by law enforcement long prior to 9/11. There would be little reason to suspect that another attack on 9/11, despite the different methodology, was intrinsically linked to the main series of attacks.
Exposing the cell and making a public spectacle of Mossad’s actions would have severed relations between the United States and Israel for a generation. As pro-Zionists, warhawks and evangelicals began to dominate the Republican Party under George W. Bush, that was never going to be an option. As Fox News stated in December of 2001, a number of the 60 Israelis arrested and deported after 9/11 were done so under the Patriot Act anti-terrorism law, the U.S. quietly cleaning up.
The infamous Israeli attack on the USS Liberty shows that the U.S. is unwilling to sanction Israel even for the murder of 34 crew members, let alone for a failed plot that got lost amidst the jingoistic clamour for war against Afghanistan. Both Israel and the U.S. found that the attack had been a “mistake” despite surviving crew members of the Liberty attack rejecting the conclusion and maintaining that the attack was deliberate.
Perhaps it is a case that the great truth of 9/11 is not there were missile strikes, holographic planes or miniature nuclear weapons being utilised, it is not that some other nation carried out the attacks or it formed part of a conspiracy to take over the world by reptiles, the truth is far more Prozac and a truth that has been successfully silenced through a twenty year campaign of disinformation. Through the release of ever increasingly unlikely claims such as those above, those with an interest in hiding the truth have successfully portrayed doubters of the official narrative as fringe conspiracy theorists taken to wild theories and speculation.
Ask, what is more likely… that thousands of people across several international states were involved in the greatest conspiracy of all time, or that five individuals were planning an insidious attempt to implicate their enemies in the atrocity, one that the United States and Israeli hawks took full advantage of after it happened. Given the long track record of Mossad in engaging in black-ops, false flags and out and out terror attacks, there is little question that they would willingly engage in such an operation.
“We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq. [These events] swung American public opinion in our favor.”Benjamin Netanyahu

Ten Myths About Israel
By Ilan Pappe
In this groundbreaking book, published on the fiftieth anniversary of the Occupation, the outspoken and radical Israeli historian Ilan Pappe examines the most contested ideas concerning the origins and identity of the contemporary state of Israel.
He explores the claim that Palestine was an empty land at the time of the Balfour Declaration, as well as the formation of Zionism and its role in the early decades of nation building. He asks whether the Palestinians voluntarily left their homeland in 1948, and whether June 1967 was a war of “no choice.” Turning to the myths surrounding the failures of the Camp David Accords and the official reasons for the attacks on Gaza, Pappe explains why the two-state solution is no longer viable.
