Christian and Jewish Charities Funding Islamophobia On Massive Scale New Report Reveals

Michael East, Red Revolution

Mainstream American charities, including Christian and Jewish organizations, are funding anti-Muslim hate groups on a massive scale a new report by the Council on American-Islamic Relations has revealed.

The report reveals that the likes of the Fidelity Charity Fund, the National Christian Charitable Foundation and the Jewish Communal Fund are amongst over 1,096 foundations that have funded 39 hate groups between 2014 and 2016, allowing the funding of these groups to reach a staggering $1.5 billion.

Identifying a new boldness in Islamophobic attitudes and statements, the CAIR report points the finger squarely at Donald Trump for unleashing the tide of bigotry that has enveloped the West since his ascension to the Presidency.

“Although Islamophobia has typically waxed and waned with the political cycle, the election of Donald Trump has opened a space for the Islamophobia Network to enter the formal halls of power. The Islamophobia Network is deeply integrated into the current administration and exerts enormous impact over Trump, his rhetoric, and the policies he pursues. There have been more than a dozen individuals in the Trump administration who have possessed direct links to anti-Muslim hate groups.”

Taking aim beyond the usual scope of investigations into Islamophic content that usually focuses on outwardly racist far-right groups, the new report includes groups that seek to insidiously turn public opinion against Muslims and distort the truth through the dissemination of fake news and “combatting extremism”. These listed groups include the likes of CAMERA, who seek to promote “accurate and balanced” coverage of Israel and the Middle East (code for pro-Zionist fake news) and the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

“Islamophobic attitudes and policies are propagated by special interest groups with deep sources of funding. This decentralized group of actors is known as the Islamophobia Network, a close-knit family of organizations and individuals that share an ideology of extreme anti-Muslim animus, and work with one another to negatively influence public opinion and government policy about Muslims and Islam.”

The report also highlights that while there have been positive signs for Muslims and Islamic acceptance in the United States through the elections of Ilhan Omar and Rashida Talib, the backlash against Muslims serving in Congress shows the levels of hatred now openly on display at every level of American society.

“Despite signals that point to a more positive long-term future for social and cultural attitudes about Islam and Muslims in the public sphere, a tremendous amount of work needs to be done in order to curb the damage done by the Islamophobia network.”

The Islamophobia Industry: How the Right Manufactures Hatred of Muslims

By Nathan Lean

This is a disturbing account of the campaign to promote fear and hatred of Muslims in the United States and Europe, from the ‘War on Terror’ to Trump’s travel ban.   Nathan Lean takes us through a world of conservative bloggers, right-wing talk show hosts, evangelical religious leaders and politicians, united in their efforts to demonise Muslims as the new enemy of Western civilization. Lean uncovers their scare tactics, traces their sources of funding and exposes the ideologies that drive their lucrative propaganda machine.    This second edition includes new material on the Trump campaign and presidency, tracking the rise to power of some of the Islamophobia Industry’s most extreme figures. Writers from Breitbart, liberal anti-Muslim campaigners such as Bill Maher, and Trump-influencers such as Steve Bannon, Newt Gingrich and John Bolton are all put in the spotlight. This shocking and enlightening book is now more relevant than ever.
