The attack on four ships this past week at the UAE port city of Fujairah has been blamed on both Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and Houthi rebels, with some quite astounding claims being made about the method of the attacks.
A report by the Norwegian Shipowners’ Mutual War Risks Insurance Association (DNK) that was seen by Reuters claims that the “attack” was likely to have been carried out by a surface vessel in close proximity to the targets, the ship releasing underwater drones carrying between 65 and 110lb of high-grade explosives to detonate on impact.
The position is in-line with U.S. officials who claim that either Iran supported Houthi or Iraq-based militias in carrying out the attack or Iranian combat divers themselves were behind the incident.
The claims are quite astonishing considering that the UAE’s official Emirates News Agency (WAM) stated clearly that there were no explosions at Fujairah and the owners of the Norweigan ship that was attacked, the Andrea Victory, stated that their vessel was damaged in a collision.
The claims that between 65 and 110lb of high-grade explosives were used against sitting-duck oil tankers also seems to defy belief when the incident caused no loss of life, no oil spillage and no vessels crippled or sunk. The claims are further undermined by the DNK assertion that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has supplied the Houthis with “explosive-laden surface drone boats capable of homing in on GPS navigational positions for accuracy.”
Despite this accuracy, none of the vessels were sunk, including a fully laden oil tanker sitting at anchor.
Photographic evidence shows no signs associated with an explosion of any kind, let alone one involving up to 110lb of “high-grade explosive.” Photos from the Andrea Victory show the vessel holed at and below the waterline with no evidence of scorching, burning or shrapnel. The evidence would seem to support the claims that the vessel in-fact was hit by a moving object. Despite this, the DNK report claims that the Andrea Victory suffered “extensive damage”.
Despite the claims about the attack at Fujairah, no photo or video evidence has been released by authorities in support of their position, with the few images we do have taken from a small number of reports from Sky Arabia and Russia Today.
For comparison, the video below shows the detonation of 100lbs of C4 explosive.
Iran has completely rejected having had any involvement in the attacks, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif saying that “extremist individuals” in the U.S. government were pursuing a dangerous agenda, likely a reference to hawks in the U.S. administration such as John Bolton and Mike Pompeo who are said to be pushing the isolationist Donald Trump toward war.
This past week, the New York Times revealed that military plans to deploy up to 120,000 troops have been handed to Donald Trump, with an invasion planned “should Iran attack American forces.” The move coincides with the U.S. State Department ordering all non-emergency staff and their families to leave Iraq and fears that the U.S/Saudi/Israel alliance will engineer an outrage against American personnel in the region.
American officials have been briefing journalists that there is “credible” evidence that Iran will order militias in Iraq to conduct attacks against U.S. troops and diplomats in the country. That intelligence was supplied by the Israeli government via Mossad and discussed in talks at the White House between U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton and his Israeli counterpart Meir Ben Shabbat.
Iran has accused Israel, Saudi Arabia and U.S. hawks of pushing for war with the country after months of the U.S. building tensions, having declared the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organisation in April. The U.S. regime has also attempted to implicate Iran in ongoing tensions with Venezuela and announced that the U.S. will no longer renew exemptions given to eight countries which enable them to purchase Iranian oil without facing sanctions from the Washington regime.
The attempts by the U.S. to portray an increasing threat from Iran to the region and their own personal has come under criticism from British Major General Chris Ghika, the deputy commander of Operation Inherent Resolve(OIR), the US-led coalition fighting Islamic State.
Speaking on Tuesday, Ghika told reporters that there “has been no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and Syria… There are a substantial number of militia groups in Iraq and Syria, and we don’t see any increased threat from any of them at this stage.”. The comments were “rebuked” by the U.S. in a fine example of how the “special relationship” works, the Americans saying that they “run counter to the identified credible threats available to intelligence from US and allies regarding Iranian backed forces in the region”.
The mere concept that Iran would launch military attacks against the world’s number one nuclear-armed superpower while the eyes of the world were watching is plainly absurd, as are claims that high-explosives were used at Fujairah. Despite the evidence of our eyes and common sense, this is the doublespeak of the modern era that we are expected to believe.
Fears that the Trump administration will launch strikes against Iran’s Revolutionary Guard will only be increased by the latest reports, the terrorist designation meaning Trump wouldn’t need Congressional approval. Any such strikes would lead to reprisals from Iran, the closing of the Strait of Hormuz and a conflict that would devastate the entire region and have repercussions that would last for generations.
We have been here before at the Gulf of Tonkin, we have been here before with the Iraq dodgy dossier, we have been here before with many of the claims about Syria and Libya. The world must not allow itself to be duped yet again into a war that will end in the greatest conflagration seen this century.

By Noam Chomsky
Noam Chomsky, the world’s foremost intellectual activist, presents an irrefutable analysis of America’s pursuit of total domination and the catastrophic consequences that are sure to follow.
From the funding of repressive regimes to the current ‘war on terror’, from the toppling of governments opposing its beliefs to the invasion of Iraq, America pursues its global strategy no matter what the cost. With the rigour and insight that have made him our most important unraveller of accredited lies, Noam Chomsky reveals the truth and the true motives behind America’s quest for dominance – and seeks also to show how the world may yet step back from the brink.
