Israeli forces have launched a wave of attacks across Gaza which have left seven Palestinians injured, the largest scale of attacks since the atrocities of 2014.
The Israeli Air Force began attacking several targets across the densely populated Gaza Strip yesterday evening with Palestinian resistance groups responding by firing rockets back at the occupation forces in southern Israel.
Israel has also deployed additional troops along the border and there were reports that the Israeli Navy had shelled Palestinian fishing boats off the coast.
The latest attacks were a response to an alleged rocket attack from Gaza that left an Israeli house partially destroyed near Tel Aviv, an attack flatly denied by Hamas.
“No one from the resistance movements, including Hamas, has an interest in firing rockets from the Gaza Strip towards the enemy.”Hamas Spokesperson
An investigation is currently underway by Hamas as to who fired the rocket, with some speculation that it could potentially have been fired accidentally.
The alleged attack also comes at an inopportune moment for Hamas as the group were due to welcome an Egyptian delegation seeking to broker a ceasefire between Israel and the group on Monday, the group adding that it “does not have an interest in firing a rocket at Israel before [the] arrival [of the delegation].”
The attacks come at a convenient time for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who is currently seeking reelection in April and is sure to be boosted by a show of strength against Palestine.
