Caracas residents were filmed wearing protective masks after the government announced the first two cases of coronavirus in the country on Friday, a number that has since risen to ten.
Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said the initially infected were two Venezuelan citizens: a 41-year-old woman who travelled to Italy, the US and Spain and a 52-year-old man who returned from a trip to Spain.
“Just today when I left [home], I grabbed the mask just in case,” said Franklin Rodríguez, a Caracas resident.
“This is something that we should have been educated about long ago. But well, since this appeared, because of the emergency it will have to be applied,” said Luis Suarez, another resident.
More than 140,000 people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide since the outbreak began in January 2020.
