USA: Times Square Appears Empty After Coronavirus Causes National Emergency Declaration

New York City’s iconic and typically bustling Times Square appeared emptier than usual on Saturday, as New Yorkers woke up after US President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration over the coronavirus outbreak the day before.

Footage shows the busy area of the United States’s biggest city, where a few tourists can still be seen.

“I call it the plague, it’s Times Square at the time of the plague. I have never seen it like this, I have lived here for 50 years, and it’s just amazing,” said Melissa Apricott, a cyclist who was passing through.

The US is currently reporting 2,340 confirmed cases of COVID-19 resulting in 51 deaths thus far.
