Hundreds of Pro-Palestine demonstrators rallied in central Washington DC on Sunday, before marching to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference venue to call for a “Free Palestine!”
Several protesters can be seen facing off with Zionist counter-protesters in heated exchanges.
Members of the Orthodox Jewish anti-Zionist group Neturei Karta were also seen among the protesters.
Yisroel Dovid Weiss, spokesman for a minority branch of Neturei Karta, said: “In fact ironically Zionism and state of Israel causes the death of Jews and simultaneously exacerbates anti-Semitism. How ironic is that, that because of their occupation which is not Judaism we as Jews are being killed and murdered.”
Inside the AIPAC conference, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called in to respond to US Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’s comments on the AIPAC conference, which he called a platform for leaders who express bigotry and oppose basic Palestinian rights. He said: “These libellous charges are outrageous and the best way to respond to that outrage is to do what you have done – by gathering in Washington today, in full force.”
