Tear Gas Flies in New Round of Portland Protests

Demonstrators gathered in Portland on Tuesday for a new round of protests over the presence and methods of federal forces detaining demonstrators.

Protesters gathered outside Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse and pushed a fence built around the building and threw objects over it. Tear gas and other projectiles were fired to disperse the crowd.

The rallies, which started in late May following the death of George Floyd, gained traction over the past few days as tensions between demonstrators and federal officers escalated.
