Thousands of protesters marched in memory of George Floyd and other victims of police violence in Washington DC as the US celebrated its independence day, on Saturday.
Protesters marched holding placards and chanting “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA” and the names of Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
At least 20 demonstrations are expected to take place in Washington DC.
Anti-racism protests have swept the US and the world following the death of 46-year-old Floyd at the hands of a white police officer on May 25. Taylor was killed in Louisville, Kentucky on March, 13 after police officers entered her apartment serving a “no-knock warrant,” suspecting her to be part of a drug ring. The woman was eventually shot eight times as the officers exchanged gunshots with her boyfriend.
