Clashes broke out between Palestinians and Israeli forces in Hebron, on Sunday, as protesters had gathered to denounce the Apartheid government’s plans to annex parts of the West Bank.
Protesters were seen throwing projectiles, while the Israeli forces were reportedly responding with rubber bullets.
Reports indicate that a young Palestinian man was injured in the face during the clashes.
Netanyahu’s coalition partner and Israel’s Alternate Prime Minister, Benny Gantz called for the annexation to be delayed earlier in the week as he urged that the country first deals with the coronavirus crisis.
While the decision on annexation has yet to come, many suspect that Netanyahu is awaiting confirmation of support from his US counterpart, whose son-in-law Jared Kushner was a key figure in devising the so-called ‘Deal of the Century’ peace plan for the region. The annexation plans have been condemned by the UN, and the EU, as well as several Arab states and international organisations.
