Paul Stein, a musician from Sunset Park, Brooklyn, came out on to his front porch on Tuesday and entertained neighbours and passers-by with an accordion concert to encourage social distancing.
The footage shows Mr. Stein wearing a hard-hat with “Emergency Accordion” written on it. As he played the accordion, locals can be seen dancing and singing along from a safe distance.
A closer look at his accordion shows the message “Keep back six feet” inscribed on it to promote social distancing.
“In the face of the coronavirus, it’s so important to bring people together without physically bringing them together and raising their spirits. And that’s what I’m trying to do here,” said Mr. Stein.
New York has been the worst-hit state by the coronavirus outbreak, reporting over 26,000 confirmed cases and 271 deaths. Nationwide there have been over 53,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, resulting in 685 deaths thus far.
