The owners of a convenience store in Scotland are giving away free coronavirus ‘survival’ packs, containing liquid soap, hand sanitizer, a face mask and cleaning wipes to elderly people in their community.
Footage filmed on Monday shows owners of The Day Today Express in Stenhousemuir, Asiyah and Jawad Javed, preparing the goody bags.
“I met an elderly woman in the supermarket and she was really upset, because she couldn’t get a hand wash. So, I just thought if I can make all the packs up and help elderly people that’ll be great,” said Asiyah.
“People started to come in and if they couldn’t come in, they got it delivered for free,” she added.
“I would like all the community to come together and everybody should do this because this can happen to anybody, especially it affects the elderly more, so they all need help,” continued Asiyah.
The couple explained that they finance the packs by using money they had saved up for holidays: “This was our own savings. We were thinking about a holiday, but when I saw that old woman I think that is more important than a holiday – I told my kids to leave it until next time in the future when we get a chance to go on holiday again.”
The generous couple has reportedly distributed around 2,000 packs already.
