Thousands Protest in Gaza Strip Against Israeli West Bank Annexation Plan

Supporters of the Reformist branch of the Fatah movement took to the streets of the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, to protest against the Israeli government’s plans to annex parts of the West Bank.

Protesters carried Palestinian and Fatah movement flags, and chanted slogans rejecting the annexation plan that was set to enter into force on July 1st.

“Our message to the international community is to stand with the Palestinian people in front of the Israeli challenge… and that this the Palestinian people will fight and will struggle to achieve their national goals in the independent state of Palestine,” said Nabil Al-Qatari, a member of the Palestinian National Council.

A leading member of the Fatah movement, Muhammad Rabei, said that the Palestinian people will not accept negligence “in an inch of Palestine” and that they “will remain steadfast until the last drop of blood from every Palestinian.”

According to reports, several talks have been ongoing between Israel and the US since Trump unveiled his set of proposals known as “Deal of the Century” to put an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on January 28, which envisions to turn 30% of the territory under permanent Israeli control, whilst giving autonomy in the remaining land to the Palestinians.

The controversial process, that was supposed to start being carried out on July 1st, has been heavily criticised by the international community ever since it was unveiled, with the state of Palestine rejecting the plan altogether and ending a wide range of deals with Israel and the United States last May.
