Artists Complete Large Breonna Taylor Mural in Annapolis

A team composed of artists and volunteers completed a large-scale mural of Breonna Taylor, a black woman shot by the police, in Annapolis, Maryland, on Sunday.

The 7,000-square-foot mural (650 square metres) featuring Breonna Taylor’s birth and death date with the text “Black Lives Matter,” was painted on a basketball court.

Taylor was killed while sleeping in her bed in Louisville, Kentucky on March 13, after police officers broke into her apartment serving a “no-knock warrant,” suspecting her to be part of a drug ring. The woman was eventually shot eight times as the officers exchanged gunshots with her boyfriend.

No drugs were found in the apartment. Taylor’s mother filed a lawsuit against the police officers for wrongful death.

Along with George Floyd, Philando Castile, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Michael Brown and Tamir Rice, Breonna Taylor has become one of the many names evoked in protests against police brutality across the US.
