Mere Weeks After Assassinating Qasem Soleimani, Absurd Mike Pompeo Claims Chinese Communist Party Is Central Threat of Our Times

Few people would ever accuse the imperial U.S. empire of being self-aware, yet occasionally this lack of self-awareness reaches such a level of absurdity to be worthy of a comment once more.

Acting as America’s very own globetrotting Colonel Blimp, Mike Pompeo is currently in the United Kingdom, seemingly for little more reason than to agitate for more future belligerence against “America’s enemies”. The current target of this belligerence is, of course, China.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab in London, Pompeo accused the Chinese Communist Party of being the ‘central threat of our times’, claiming that the worldwide threat of international terrorism was lower thanks to the joint actions of the US and UK.

In 2020, it seems that the only talent one needs for high office is propaganda.

“The Chinese Communist Party under President Xi (Jinping) has made clear that they have an agenda that is not always consistent with the very values Dominic and I have been speaking about this morning”

Colonel Blimp

In the past year alone, the United States was instrumental in the Bolivian coup d’état that brought the far-right to power and ousted progressive socialist Evo Morales. The coup government has since engaged in a system of racist oppression against the indigenous population, carrying out at least two massacres of activists in 2019. The U.S. also attempted to facilitate the failed coup against Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela and is currently refusing to get out of Iraq, acting as an occupying power after the elected government asked them to leave.

The American Empire’s largest piece of international terror, however, was undoubtedly the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, a killing that provoked a furious backlash across the Middle East and nearly sparked what would have been the bloodiest war since Vietnam. Only Iranian restraint prevented an untold disaster in the region.

As recently as yesterday protesters in Palestine condemned the actions of the United States in backing Israel’s attempts to annex Palestinian land, the U.S. Trump regime’s so-called “deal of the century” supporting clear violations of international law in support of an apartheid state that has been referred to the International Criminal Court for war crimes.

That isn’t the Chinese flag they’re standing on and burning.

The bold proclamation that the Chinese Communist Party is the ‘central threat of our times’ simply doesn’t stand up to even the briefest of scrutiny.

The United States currently has nearly 800 military bases in more than 70 countries and territories abroad, an astonishing number. These bases are coupled with 225,000 U.S. military personnel stationed abroad with 56,213 troops being stationed in Japan, 46,900 in Germany, 29,048 in South Korea, 15,478 in Italy and 10,528 in the UK, not to mention those actively engaging in occupation missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. The U.S has 3,800 nuclear warheads and approximately 1.3 million active-duty troops, with another 865,000 in reserve.

The United States has been involved in war 225 out of the 242 years since independence in 1776. Since 2000 alone, the U.S. has invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, intervened in Somalia, Uganda, Pakistan, Libya, Syria and Yemen.

The so-called ‘central threat of our times’ China meanwhile has bases in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Djibouti, Myanmar and Tajikistan.

Claims from the U.S. that China is the central threat of our times is true only in the sense that they are the biggest threat to U.S. global hegemony. The fall of the Soviet Union allowed America to spread its muscle unchecked across the globe and to install “friendly” subservient regimes sympathetic to neoliberal capitalist ideology without challenge. There is nothing America fears more than the return of a balancing force. However, with a record of blood stretching back decades if not centuries, it is, in fact, the American empire who remains the biggest international threat to peace and security seen since the end of the Second World War.

From Latin America to the Middle East, it is not China’s name that echoes as a curse, it is that of the United States.
